Join us for a two-day natural building workshop, to work in a small community and build a wood-fired pizza oven! We will be using material directly from the earth on the farm’s property to make cob, a traditional and sustainable building technique made from clay, sand, and straw. This workshop is a great experience for beginners or experts alike to learn how to build with cob and to get a broad learning overview of natural building techniques. You will get a solid foundation in cob building fundamentals. After this workshop, you will have the skills to build your own oven and the basic knowledge to venture into larger cob projects of your own.
Anna Scola is an artist and writer living in New York City. She became a full time volunteer on Magic Forest Farm in March 2020. Inspired by the alternative architecture projects on the farm, Anna travelled to Central America to study traditional building techniques. Over four months, she stayed at various sustainable centres and worked with local communities to build cob sculptures, shelves, ovens and rooms. Anna returned to the farm this summer to share her new skills and contribute to the portfolio of building methods that make the farm a beautiful and unique place to stay and host events.
